Our Brief, But Jam Packed Pokemon Gold Walkthrough
Pokemon Gold rom and Pokemon Silver Rom is part of the Pokémon game franchise. Developed by Game Freak, it follows the story of a rookie trainer named Gold (or Silver) and his quest to become the Pokémon League Champion. The game was released in Japan in 1999. It was published by Nintendo for the Game Boy Color. Along with Pokémon Silver, they were released in North America and Australia in 2000. A year later, Pokemon Crystal was released. They even made a remake, Pokemon Shining Gold and Soul Silver, which were released in 2009 for Nintendo DS.
Pokemon Gold Version, with its counterparts Pokémon Silver and Pokémon Crystal, has a gameplay similar with its predecessors Pokémon Red and Blue. The players will direct the trainer and interact with other NPCs. Also, when encountering an opponent, there are battle scenes in which the Pokémon will fight, depending on what terrain you are currently in.
Pokemon Gold rom features 100 new species of Pokémon and a new feature: Pokémon holding items. One of the items that Pokémon can hold is berries. Berries have different medicinal properties. For example, a Sitrus berry and an Oran berry will heal your Pokémon’s HP while a Pecha berry can cure poisoning. A Cheri berry is used to heal paralysis and a Rawst berry can heal burns. Also, berries can be used during the battle without you rummaging in your backpack. Aside from the berries, catching Pokemon is made easier with new types of Pokéballs being introduced to the games. Another new feature is the PokéGear, a device that allows a Trainer to call people, listen to the radio and look at the Town Map. Trainers are now able to call each other for rematches.
The main story follows the game character whose name can be chosen by the player. Then they will have to choose their starter Pokémon from these three: Cyndaquil, Totodile and Chikorita. Just like in previous games, the protagonist has a rival and the players can pick out a name for him. As you go along, you will venture to different terrains: grasslands, oceans, forests and caves where different species of Pokémon live. Your goal is to catch Pokémon and fill the pages of the Pokédex. Also, you have to defeat eight Gym leaders in Pokemon Gold rom all across Johto, acquire their gym badges, and conquer the Elite Four. And finally, you will defeat the Pokémon Gold rom League Champion and claim the title.
But that’s not all. After becoming Pokemon Gold rom League Champion, you will have the privilege to explore the Kanto region, the setting of the first Pokémon games. You have to battle Kanto’s Gym Leaders and acquire their badges. Sounds easy, don’t you think? However, that’s not the case. After defeating the Gym leaders, it’s time for the ultimate test: you will face the Kanto League Champion, Red. Let’s just say that facing him in a Pokémon battle will make your match against the Johto champion look tame by comparison.
Aside from the new mechanics, there will be new legendary Pokémon: Suicune, Entei and Raikou. They are the Three Legendary Dog Pokémon that represents Water, Fire, and Lightning, respectively. Once encountered, players can keep track of them using the Pokédex. Meeting rare and shiny Pokémon is also one of the new features in this game. The red Gyarados at the Lake of Rage is an example of a rare type Pokémon that players will have an opportunity to catch.
Two new Pokémon types have been introduced in the Pokemon Gold rom: Steel-types and Dark-types. Examples of Steel-type Pokemon are Steelix, Rhyhorn, and Skarmory. Examples of Dark-Types are Umbreon, Murkrow, Houndour and Houndoom. Steel-type Pokémon have higher resistance than most Pokémon types. It can only be defeated by Water and Fire-type Pokémon. As for Dark-types, they are stronger than Psychic-type Pokémon. They are also immune to Psychic attacks.
This game introduces the concept of Pokémon breeding and gave rise to Pokémon Day-Care. Here’s how breeding works: a male and female Pokémon that shares the same egg group will be left in the care of the Day-Care Man. The two might produce an egg so it’s important to drop by often to check their progress. When an egg was produced, it’s up to the trainer to hatch it. The egg must be included in the party. Once the egg hatched, the young Pokémon will be at level 5.
All in all, Pokemon Gold rom and Silver are deemed as two of the best games in the franchise – and keep in mind that Nintendo’s creation has significantly expanded since the early 2000s. They have almost matched the sales of their predecessors Pokémon Red and Blue. They have continued building the success of the games and turned it into a multi-billion dollar franchise. In 2010, the recorded amount of units sold is 23 million units. Jaw-dropping, isn’t it?
For those who grew up playing Pokémon, it is a worthwhile experience. Battling other trainers and getting registered to the Hall of Fame seemed very fulfilling. They are part of our childhood, the one where we can be anything. We dreamed of becoming a Pokémon Master and go to an adventure where we meet new people and battle them. We also get the chance to enter a world where we catch creatures and write our own stories.
Maybe this is why the Pokémon franchise became popular. It opens a door to a new world where anything is possible and anyone can embark on the journey to greatness.
